Creative tatting with Buttons

When checking out of our local fabric outlet known as Carolina Foam & Fabric, my eye caught some decorative buttons lying on the counter.  They were most striking and I couldn’t help but think how some of them might apply to tatting.

Some of the buttons I found at our local fabric store.

Here are several examples of decorative buttons and ways they could be combined to create very special looks

I had already purchased Karey Solomon’s book and was anxious to try my hand at combining buttons and tatting, but hadn’t yet had or seen the opportunity.  These specialty buttons were making me think.  The button in the upper right of the above picture drew my attention especially.

When I found the inner button on the display counter, I was very happy.  In addition to the 2 holes for stitching the button down, there were 6 pedals that tatting could be attached to.  This was very much what I had been looking for.   It’s taken the usual 3 tries to get the pattern to come together, but I hope to have it ready soon!

Additional photos soon!
