New Years

The New Year is always a beginning, full of potential and with endless possibilities for success.  In 2014, the Thread Bears have elected to look at ways to improve our tatting.  So based on 3 things: Sharon Briggs’s 25 Motif Challenge, Wally Sosa’s YouTube video “25 motif challenge,” showing the designs she used to meet such a challenge, and Georgia Seitz’s book “Tatting Talk,” we are embarking on a journey to better our skills.

Sharon Briggs describes the 25 Motif Challenge this way:  “Challenge yourself to tat 25 motifs within the next year and show us your progress.”   A motif could be a medallion, snowflake, heart, bookmark, butterfly, earrings or any small piece of tatting.  It can be an original design or could come from a published work of patterns, old or new.  The object is to gain some experience with at least 25 different techniques of tatting by putting them into practice in a practical way.

We have decided to approach the techniques on a monthly basis.  This way it should take us about 2 years to work through the entire Challenge.  Lessons will be prepared hopefully beginning with easier designs or techniques and building on these to more complex ones.
