Beading Workshop at Chevron Beads!

On October 16, we had the privilege of attending a beading workshop at Chevron Trading Post and Beads in downtown Asheville, NC.  This was a generous gift from Sherry to the group and overall, I think the everyone who was able to attend got a tremendous amount from the experience.  Our Hostess and instructor was Codi Estes.  She took us on a tour of the facility and explained many details about beads and beading accessories.  We got to see first hand the enormous selection of beads Chevron carries as well as findings, their uses, which are current and which are becoming hard to find.  We were able to look at beading books ranging from beginner to advanced beading.

When the actual workshop began, Codi walked us through working with beading tools and some of the basics of making loops with the softer metals so that we could hang beads on some of our tatting.  Mostly we use jump rings and split rings on our tatted creations if we require any sort of finding at all.  It’s important to remember how to properly open each of these sorts of rings.

For some of us, the information was totally new.  For others, it was a good review of material we had already been exposed to.  Overall, we were very grateful to Codi and the Chevron Team for sharing the information with us.  Any tatter would benefit from attending such a workshop if one becomes available in your area.  While the techniques shared were often specific to beading, the tatters who are introduced to these methods will be able to easily adapt them to their craft.
